Scoring Hollywood Gin

Three games are played simultaneously. When a player wins his first game, that score is credited to the Game 1. That players second victory is credited to the Game 1 and Game 2. The players third victory and all subsequent wins are applied to all three games. When a player reaches 100 points, or whatever point total was decided upon, the game is closed. After a game ends, subsequent scores apply only to games still in play.

All three of the games are scored individually and end separately. When Game 3 ends the match ends and a new series can begin. If a player is shut out in one game, his next score is entered as the first score in the next game in progress.

Tips for smart play

Winning early hands allows players to score in more games more quickly.

Example score sheet

Scorecard 1
The score sheet is set up in three columns for three games. In the example, Game 1 was won by Sean with 10 points.

Scorecard 2
Sean also wins Game 2 with 4 points. The 10 from Game 1 and 4 from Game 2 are added together and the sum 14 is placed under the Sean column of Game 1.

Scorecard 3
Sean wins Game 3 with 12 points. This allows Sean to score as follows:

1. Sean adds the 4 points from Game 2 and the 12 points from Game 3 together and the sum of 16 is placed under the Sean column of Game 2.

2. Sean adds the 14 points from Game 1 and the 12 points from game 3 together and the sum of 26 is placed under the Sean column of Game 1.

Scorecard 4
In the fourth hand of the match, Clint wins 29 points, receiving credit in Game 1 for winning this hand. Even though Clint won this hand with 29 points, he hasn't opened scoring in Games 2 or 3, so he is at a disadvantage. Opening small wins in three hands gives Sean a chance to score in al three games with every hand for the rest of the match.
